#2 BYU Volleyball won their 12th straight game Saturday evening as the Cougars beat #8 Pepperdine in 4 sets 25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20.
BYU also improved to 12-0 with the win, the best start to a season since 2008, when BYU also opened 8-0. BYU has won 10 matches against ranked opponents this season, and have the most impressive resume in the country.
BYU opened the first set on a mission, breaking out to a large lead and comfortably beating the Waves 25-18 in the set. BYU had 8 blocks in the first set, making the Waves task of keeping pace near impossible.
The Waves opened strong on the Cougars in the second set, but the Cougars battled their way back and took a late lead. BYU would win the set 25-22.
The second set was another close one, as the Cougars struggled to take the lead after continually pulling even with the Waves. The set was tight all the way to the end, with the Waves holding on late to win 25-22.
The fourth set was close again, and BYU struggled to build a lead. Every short streak for the Cougars was answered by the Waves. BYU finally took a 3 point lead at 17-14 on a Miki Jauhianen ace, and held the lead for good, finishing the match with a 25-20 set four win.
BYU hits the road next weekend to play at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix on Friday. The Lopes sit just outside the Top 15. BYU will then return home to play Concordia Irvine and USC at the Smith Fieldhouse.
