BYU Basketball Moves to Number 15 in AP Top 25 Poll

Top 15!

NCAA Basketball: Gonzaga at Brigham Young Jeffrey Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

After vaulting to number 17 in last week’s poll, BYU checked in at number 15 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll released Monday morning. BYU’s week included a 17-point road win over Pepperdine that saw Yoeli Childs go for a career high 38 points. In addition to the win, teams above BYU lost and fell below the Cougars as a result. BYU also came in at number 9 in the latest daily NET rankings, which is the primary sorting tool used by the selection committee.

BYU heads into this week with no games as they prepare for the semifinal game of the WCC tournament next Monday in Las Vegas. BYU is in the midst of a 9-game winning streak and playing their best ball of the season. One concern is that the time off could hurt some of the momentum BYU has gained, but it could also work in BYU’s favor with the amount of guys banged up. Dalton Nixon (ankle) will be looking to get back on the court, but other guys such as Yoeli Childs (finger), Jake Toolson (ankle), Connor Harding (knee), Kolby Lee (knee) and Gavin Baxter (shoulder) will all have additional time to heal.
