BYU led for most of the game, but the Cougars could never pull ahead as Jordan Ford hit a jump shot with 1.4 seconds left to push Saint Mary’s past BYU, 51-50.
In what was an ugly game from start to finish as neither team could get in a rhythm offensively — both teams shot 36% from the field. BYU lost the turnover battle 15-12 and could never string together multiple good offensive possessions.
BYU had a 42-34 lead in the second half, but a 12-0 Saint Mary’s run put the Gaels back in the game. BYU responded to take another lead, but it was back and forth the rest of the way until Jordan Ford made his game winner.
Yoeli Childs finished with a game high 23 points, but he was 8-20 from the floor and 5-10 from the foul line. TJ Haws had his worst game of the season, shooting 2-14, and Jake Toolson was only able to get up two field goal attempts in the second half.
BYU is still safely in the NCAA Tournament and will await its fate until Selection Sunday.
