BYU lost some depth in the secondary as cornerback Isaiah Herron entered the transfer portal. 247 Sports first reported the news.

Herron is entering his redshirt sophomore year in 2020 and played in 15 games for BYU during his first two seasons. In 2019, he played 11 games and started 7. He recorded 22 tackles and two pass breakups over the course of the season.
While losing Herron hurts, BYU has some depth at cornerback. Chris Wilcox is expected to be the number one cornerback after redshirting as a senior last year due to injury, and BYU also has D’Angelo Mandell, Dimitri Gallow, Shamon Willis, Malik Moore, Keenan Ellis, Jacques Wilson and Jaylon Vickers to fill the void.
BYU was in a scholarship crunch and over the 85 scholarship allotment — while Herron’s transfer isn’t ideal, it frees up one of those excess scholarships before summer term starts June 22.
