BYU LB Chaz Ah You Out With Season-Ending Injury

Tough blow for Chaz.

NCAA Football: Brigham Young at Tennessee Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

News has broke today that junior linebacker Chaz Ah You underwent surgery earlier today after reaggravating a lower-leg injury against Navy and will be sidelined for the remainder of the year.

Ah You has been a defensive starter and will leave a large void on that side of the ball. Last season, Ah You played in 11 games and tallied 31 tackles, 24 of which were solo. His best performance came in the 28-21 loss at Toledo where he finished with seven tackles and a forced fumble and fumble recovery that gave BYU the ball back with a minute left in a tied game.

In the depth chart BYU released earlier this week, Ah You was listed as a starter in the ‘Cinco’ spot, one of six hybrid linebacker positions. Sophomore George Udo is listed as his backup, but expect to see some personnel changes made on defense tomorrow. Udo played sparingly in the Navy game but did have a sack.

Ah You now joins tight end Matt bushman and running backs Hinckley Ropati and Jackson McChesney as players who are out for the year.

It was also shared on Wednesday that offensive lineman Tristen Hoge was one of the positive COVID tests on the team last week that resulted in the postponement of the Army game. Hoge was cleared to return to practice earlier this week but after going through additional testing, he’s been diagnosed with pneumonia. It’s unknown when he’ll be able to return to action.

BYU plays Troy Saturday night at 8:15 pm MT on ESPN.
