Things looked rough at times, but BYU held on in a 95-87 win over Pacific in double overtime.

Alex Barcello didn’t make a field goal in the first half, but he led BYU with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Brandon Averette led all scorers with 24 points.

BYU had a chance to win in regulation, but Caleb Lohner missed 2 free throws with 3.4 seconds left in a tie game. Pacific had a chance to win at the first overtime but missed a jump shot with under 5 seconds left.

BYU got off to a hot start, hitting 5 threes early, but Pacific clamped down in the paint and allowed BYU to score only 2 points in the paint during the first half. BYU picked up things down low in the second half, but Pacific held their own on defense until foul trouble took their top bigs out of the game late.

Mark Pope still has yet to lose back-to-back games as BYU’s head coach and BYU still has a NCAA Tournament resume. BYU needs to clean up things, particular offensively, but they are sitting pretty well with just over a month remaining in the season.

BYU next hits the road with a Tuesday evening game at San Diego.
