This game wasn’t for the defensive fans.
BYU’s offense won the track meet as Jaren Hall aired it out and Tyler Allgeier battered Virginia defenders in a 66-49 win Saturday night in Provo.
BYU jumped out to an early 21-0 lead, but UVA scored a touchdown on six straight possessions to go into halftime with a 42-38 lead.
BYU rode Tyler Allgeier in the second half to limit possessions, and BYU’s defense held Virginia to just 7 second half points to slow down the Hoos. Turnovers also helped BYU, as they won the turnover battle 3-0.
BYU’s offensive stats were absolutely bonkers — 734 total yards, including 349 yards in the air and 385 on the ground. Jaren Hall and Tyler Allgeier both had career days. Hall had 349 yards and 3 passing TDs to go with 42 rushing yards and a TD.
Tyler Allgeier was the player of the game once again, finishing with 266 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns. BYU rode Allgeier in the second half to hold onto the ball and limit Virginia’s possessions.
BYU moves to 7-2 on the season and next has Idaho State before a much needed bye week.
