The Weber HS product is ranked as a 4-Star recruit by every major outlet and the consensus top ranked defensive lineman in the state of Utah. Moa originally committed to Utah back in January and de-committed from the Utes at the end of September. His father Ben played football at Utah.
Moa is the second 4-star recruit to commit to BYU after Corner Canyon WR Cody Hagen committed to BYU recently.
Moa intends to graduate early and enroll at BYU in January, meaning he will be able to participate in spring ball. Playing in spring ball will give Moa a nice head start and increase his likelihood to be an immediate contributor. Moa projects as a defensive end initially, but has the frame where he could put in the pounds and possibly move to the interior.
So far this season, Moa has racked up 43 tackles, 5 sacks and 1 interception, according to Max Preps. Moa as played largely as an edge rusher.
Despite the loss to Boise State, Moa’s commitment is another indicator that BYU’s success on the field and move the Big 12 is already paying big dividends. Hagen was considered a Stanford lean until he committed to BYU, and Moa was committed to Utah for 9 months until BYU was able to reel him in. BYU has had a ton of momentum the past month and it is paying huge dividends on the recruiting trail with two recruits that weren’t expected to go to BYU just one month ago.
