BYU Opens as 35-Point Favorite Over Idaho State

NCAA Football: Idaho State at Brigham Young Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

BYU is unsurprisingly a heavy favorite when they host Idaho State Saturday afternoon in LaVell Edwards Stadium. Opening lines were released for the game today and BYU opened as a 35-point favorite in multiple sports books. The over/under is 53.5.

BYU is 7-2 on the season and opened at #15 in the inaugural College Football Playoff rankings revealed earlier this week. Idaho State, meanwhile, is 1-7. Their lone win FBS game of the season was a 49-10 loss to Nevada and they are coming off a 40-17 home loss to Weber State.

BYU will probably hold multiple guys out after a 9-game gauntlet and bye week coming up next week. Georgia Southern the week after is 2-6, so BYU realistically has 3 weeks to banged up guys healthy before the season finale at USC.

The number 15 ranking gives BYU an outside shot at a NY6 bowl, so BYU will need help from teams above and behind them if they want to sneak into one of those bowl games since nothing else on the schedule really enhances the resume. USC is 4-4 on the year, so a winning record for the Trojans wouldn’t hurt to give BYU something to hang its hat on to end the year.
