Alex Barcello caught fire from deep as BYU took care of business in Provo in a 79-73 win over San Francisco Thursday night. San Francisco made a bunch of threes late to keep the margin tight and make BYU sweat a bit.
Alex Barcello scored a career high 29 points and had 5 assists, including 7/7 shooting from three, to lead BYU. Caleb Lohner continued his progression, scoring all 13 of his points in the first half and grabbing 9 rebounds. Gideon George did better staying out foul trouble and finished with 11 points and 6 rebounds.
BYU once again had a nice offensive performance, shooting 59% from the field and 58% from deep. San Francisco shot 38% from the field and 33% from deep, but 12 made three pointers and 9 more free throw attempts from BYU kept them in the game — BYU also lost the turnover battle 12-7.
BYU moves to 18-5 on the season and all but locks up the 2 seed in the WCC tournament with a 9-3 record. BYU next hosts St Mary’s on senior night before heading to Vegas for the WCC tournament.
