BYU Tops 100 Points in Blowout Win Over Portland

NCAA Basketball: Gonzaga at Brigham Young Jeffrey Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

BYU fired on all cylinders in a 105-60 blowout road win over Portland Thursday night. BYU came out shooting well and didn’t let up the whole night in an absolutely dominating performance over the WCC’s cellar dweller. Gideon George got his first career start and responded with his best game, finishing with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Matt Haarms and Brandon Averette each added 15 points, Alex Barcello and Connor Harding both finished with 12 points and Caleb Lohner had 11 points.

BYU had a new starting lineup, going with Haarms, Lohner, George, Averette, and Barcello. BYU went deep into the bench as they usually do, but the new starting 5 gives BYU additional length and versatility to start out the game.

BYU shot 62.7% from the field and a blistering 62.5% from three (15-24). BYU’s size suffocated the Pilots as the Cougars finished with a 46-12 rebounding advantage.

BYU moves to 15-4 with the win and 6-2 in the WCC. BYU has a few days off before hosting #1 Gonzaga Monday night in the Marriott Center.
