BYU Basketball Just Outside AP Top 25 Poll

NCAA Basketball: Santa Clara at Gonzaga James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

BYU nearly entered the AP Top 25 Poll for the first time this season, falling just outside with a number 26 ranking in Monday morning’s poll. BYU received 101 votes, just 5 votes behind #25 Wisconsin. BYU had wins over San Francisco and St. Mary’s this week, which brought them to 19-5 on the season and enough to give them top 25 consideration.

BYU’s resume is top 25 worthy. The Cougars are ranked #22 in KenPom, #20 in NET, are 8-5 in Quad 1/Quad 2 games and have zero Quad 3 or Quad 4 losses. BYU’s best win is a road victory over San Diego State, who rose to #19 in the newest AP Poll.

BYU will have a week off before their next game Monday, March 8 in the WCC Tournament semifinals. BYU received a double bye to the semifinals since they are the #2 seed and will likely play either Pacific or Pepperdine in the semis.

Here’s to hoping BYU steps onto the court as a top 25 team when they take the court in Vegas next Monday! This would the second season in a row that BYU is ranked in the AP Poll. BYU broke a 9-year drought last season and rose to as high as #15.
