BYU Basketball will play its first game in the WCC Tournament on Monday night against the Pepperdine Waves.
The BYU Cougars are the two seed in the tournament while Pepperdine is the three seed. This will be the third matchup between the two teams this season, with BYU winning one and Pepperdine winning one.
Pepperdine is the only team not named Gonzaga that BYU lost to in conference play. This happened back on Jan. 27. Due to scheduling issues, BYU and Pepperdine faced each other in back to back games, with BYU winning at home against the Waves, 65-54 on Jan. 23 but then losing in Malibu by a score of 76-73.
BYU’s overall record is 19-15, while they went 10-3 in conference play. With the double bye in the conference tournament, their last game was on Feb. 27 when Saint Mary’s visited the Marriott Center. BYU won that game, 65-51. The Cougars won their last four games in a row of the regular season and come into the WCC tournament as a lock in the NCAA tournament, according to almost all predictions.
Pepperdine had a single bye in the WCC tourney, and played for the first time in Las Vegas on Saturday night against the Santa Clara Broncos, winning 78-70. The Waves are now 12-11 overall and have a 7-6 conference record.
The winner of BYU/Pepperdine will face the winner of Gonzaga/Saint Mary’s on Tuesday night in the WCC Championship game, earning an auto bid to the NCAA Tournament. It’s all ended up chalk at The Orleans Arena. Will that continue? Here’s how to watch BYU and Pepperdine:
