BYU Basketball has earned the chance to play the no. 1 Gonzaga Bulldogs for a third time this season, this time with the WCC Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line.
The second-seeded Cougars scraped out their twentieth win of the season late Mon. night (really, early Tues. for many fans) against Pepperdine in OT, 82-77. They trailed most of the game. BYU is now 20-5 overall and finished 10-3 in the WCC.
Gonzaga, of course, has not lost a game this year and is a perfect 25-0 overall, 15-0 in the WCC. They are the one seed in the tournament in addition to being no. 1 in the country all year. Two of BYU’s three conference losses came at the hands of the Bulldogs — 86-69 on Jan. 7 in Spokane, and 82-71 at the Marriott Center on Feb. 8 the final scores.
Gonzaga defeated the fourth-seeded Saint Mary’s Gaels, 78-55 on Mon. night to advance to the championship game.
