Vaka is the second highest rated commit in BYU’s 2021 class according to 247’s composite rankings. At 6-foot-2, 350 pounds Vaka is a massive prospect who is intriguing along the interior defensive line.
Vaka had an interesting path up to this point. He had offers earlier in his recruitment from Florida, Texas A&M, Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, Oregon, LSU and a host of other P5 teams. He was committed to Texas A&M and Colorado at various points but backed off those commitments. He cut his final three to BYU, Penn State and Oregon State most recently and ultimately chose BYU. According to Jeff Hansen at Cougar Insider, Vaka will come to BYU as a preferred walk-on.
The first comp for Vaka is Khyiris Tonga. Both are huge interior lineman and are similar sizes. He already has a college ready body and will be given every opportunity to be a scholarship player. If he can tap into his potential he could easily be a steal for BYU down the road.
