NFL Draft: BYU CB Chris Wilcox Drafted by Tampa Buccaneers in 7th Round

BYU cornerback Chris Wilcox was picked 251st overall in the 7th Round by The Tampa Bay. Buccaneers. Wilcox is BYU’s first defensive back drafted since Dewey Grey in 1993. Wilcox was drafted one pick after Khyiris Tonga.

Wilcox was a 2-star prospect in the 2016 class and BYU was his lone FBS offer. BYU coaches saw his size and athleticism and developed him into a NFL prospect. Wilcox is long at 6-foot-2 and was BYU’s best cover corner for years. His pro day was especially impressive where he ran a 4.31 40-yard dash and posted a 37.5-inch vertical jump.

Wilcox had some injury issues during his last two seasons at BYU but teams rarely threw his way when he was on the field. Wilcox has some physical similarities to former BYU cornerback Mike Davis, who went undrafted in 2016 but has been a starter at CB for the LA Chargers for years.

Congrats to Chris and good luck in Tampa Bay!
