BYU will be getting lots of ESPN airtime in September.
ESPN and BYU announced that BYU’s first three games will all be broadcast on ESPN, with broadcast plans for Idaho State and BYU’s other home games also shared.
- 9/4 BYU vs Arizona — 8:30pm MT, ESPN
- 9/11 BYU vs Utah — 8:15pm MT, ESPN
- 9/18 BYU vs Arizona State — 8:15pm MT, ESPN
- 11/6 BYU vs Idaho St — 1:00pm MT, BYUtv and ESPN3
BYU’s other three home contests “against South Florida (Sept. 25), Boise State (Oct. 9) and Virginia (Oct. 30) will be televised on one of the ESPN networks (ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, or ESPNU), with game times and the specific networks to be determined at a later date, subject to ESPN’s twelve-day/six-day selection process.”
After a 11-1 season and matchups versus three P5 teams, BYU is being rewarded with great exposure to start the season. If BYU can perform well early than the other three home games should get favorable tv spots.
This exposure to start the season is a great way for BYU to start the season strong and make an impression on voters and the college football world, but BYU could also be written off early if they put up lackluster performances in the first three games.
ESPN also announced that the Independence Bowl, which BYU is contracted to play in if they are bowl eligible and not in a NY6 bowl, will be Saturday, December 18 at 1:30 MT on ABC.
