USA Today released its preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll and BYU finished with 53 votes, 6 spots outside of the top 25 and 31st overall. USC is the lone BYU opponent that is ranked, checking in at number 14.
Utah is just outside the poll at number 26 and week three opponent Arizona State is 28. Boise State received 27 votes (36th overall) and no other BYU opponents received votes.
This is the first of two major preseason polls that will be released, with the AP Top 25 poll dropping on Monday, August 16. BYU was last ranked in a preseason top 25 poll in 2009 when they were 20th in the AP poll and 24th in the Coaches Poll.
BYU finished last season ranked number 11 in both the AP and Coaches Poll. They first entered the AP Poll last season in week two at number 21. A dominating performance in week one over Arizona could have BYU knocking on the door of the top 25 before they host Utah in week two.
