BYU got some bad news on Monday as Kalani Sitake announced that linebacker Keenan Pili tore his ACL versus Arizona State and is out for the season. The redshirt sophomore linebacker had 17 tackles in the opener versus Arizona and was BYU’s leading tackler on the season.
BYU fortunately has good linebacker depth, but losing Pili is definitely a blow. Ben Bywater takes Pili’s place on as starting MIKE linebacker and will play largely alongside Payton Wilgar and Max Tooley. Guys like Drew Jensen and Josh Wilson should get more playing time. The only other change at the depth chart was Drew Jensen over took Josh Wilson as the backup MIKE linebacker.
Bywater is a redshirt freshman and has received a lot of playing time already this season. He has 18 tackles on the year, including 10 in the opener versus Arizona. He filled in for Tooley versus Arizona when Tooley was out with an injury.
Jaren Hall said on Saturday that he would be good to go after going down late versus ASU and Kalani didn’t say anything to dispute that notion, saying Jaren would be good to go. Isaiah Herron and Atunaisa Mahe got dinged up as well versus ASU and are expected to be ready to play.
Below is the full depth chart.
