Just over a month after the football players signed a NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) agreement with Built Bar, all of BYU’s Female Student Athletes have a similar agreement with the Provo-based company SmartyStreets.

BYU’s official release said it could pass the $2,000,000 in value to BYU’s 300 female athletes. More from BYU’s official release:

“Under the agreement with SmartyStreets, each female student-athlete will be compensated up to $6,000 for sharing about SmartyStreets on their social media accounts and participating in various company events and activities. With more than 300 female athletes at BYU, the total compensation could surpass $2 millions.

In addition to the NIL agreements with student-athletes, SmartyStreets is also donating facility and equipment upgrades to BYU female athletes.”

Below is a description of SmartyStreets from their website. CEO Jonathan Oliver is a BYU graduate. SmartyStreets also tweeted this video of the announcement to the BYU athletes.

“SmartyStreets is the three-time heavyweight world champion of location data intelligence. Companies like Microsoft, Netflix and NASA use SmartyStreets to process colossal amounts of location data at breakneck speed. SmartyStreets’ APIs verify, validate, enrich, standardize, geocode, and auto-complete addresses — they aren’t your grandma’s APIs, but your grandma could easily use them.”

This is another incredible achievement for BYU athletics after the Built Bar deal that covered tuition for all football walk-ons and paid a sum to scholarship players. BYU has a passionate fanbase that has many founders and CEOs in local tech companies, and they are flexing their financial and marketing muscles to pour money into BYU athletics and into the pockets of student athletes.

BYU was a trailblazer with the Built Bar deal and is doing the same once again with the innovative deal with SmartyStreets. Some have questioned what NIL will do to the college landscape, but deals like this are absolutely incredible for student athletes.
