The game has been rumored and reported for months, and BYU officially announced on Tuesday that BYU-Notre Dame will play October 8, 2022 in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium. The game will be televised by NBC and is part of Notre Dame’s annual Shamrock Series.

“We are really excited about the opportunity to return to Allegiant Stadium and face Notre Dame,” said Tom Holmoe, BYU director of athletics. “This has been a process, with a lot of back-and-forth, to be able to find a return game in this series that would work for both sides. We feel very good about playing this game in Las Vegas, where Cougar Nation always shows out, and look forward to an incredible matchup and atmosphere.”
This will be BYU’s second game in the new Allegiant Stadium after BYU opened this season there with a win over Arizona. The 65,000-seat stadium was nearly a sellout and was dominated by BYU fans. I expect the BYU-Notre Dame game to be around a 50/50 split.
With the news of this game, BYU now has 12 games scheduled for the 2022 season. Three of those teams — Oregon, Arkansas, and Notre Dame — are currently ranked in the AP Top 10. Below is BYU’s 2022 schedule. Only the ECU game needs an official date.
