BYU and Notre Dame will play October 2022 in Las Vegas, according to a report from Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
From Anderson:
Brigham Young will play Notre Dame at Allegiant Stadium in October 2022 as part of the Shamrock Series, a source with knowledge of the discussions said.
The specific date is unknown, but both schools have open dates on Oct. 8 and 29.
This lines up with what Vanquish The Foe reported back in July about an October game next season being worked on in Las Vegas.
BYU going to the Big 12 appears to be imminent, so this news could suggest that BYU wouldn’t join the Big 12 until 2023. BYU of course could still join the Big 12 next season, but adding Notre Dame means BYU would need to cancel another game for next season that they previously wouldn’t need to. The Big 12 plays 9 conference games, so BYU could need to cancel 8 or 9 games next season (Baylor could be shifted to the conference schedule) if they go to the Big 12 in 2022.
With the news, BYU now has 12 games scheduled for 2022 if they play the independent schedule. The Notre Dame and ECU games still need to be finalized. BYU has 6 home games, 5 road games, and 1 neutral site game.
