The Baltimore Ravens drafted BYU standout Bronson Kaufusi this past weekend with the 70th overall pick. How good of a fit is he with the team and organization? How much will he see the field in 2016?

"With the 70th overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens select Bronson Kaufusi, DE, BYU." This was an exciting moment for Bronson, and a proud moment for BYU Football and its fans. Kaufusi was on his way to a defensive heavy team, and to a conference that is rich in history, and rivalries. Maybe more exciting was teaming up with former BYU standout Dennis Pitta, and offensive lineman De'Ondre Wesley.

But why did the Baltimore Ravens take Bronson Kaufusi over other positions they desperately need to fill? The taking of Kaufusi was scrutinized because of the dominant linebackers and pass rush the team has had in previous seasons. Some argue that the Ravens should have taken some more secondary help instead of another defensive lineman. So why the risk on the slightly older defensive standout?

Defensive Scheme

The Ravens run a hybrid 4-3/3-4 and love switching it up. They love having players that can move from DE to LB on the fly, and won't struggle with coverage assignments. They like to do this because traditionally they have the linebackers to make this possible like Terrell Suggs, Elvis Dumervil, Courtney Upshaw, and CJ Mosley.

Last year they lost Suggs to injury, and countless other players that dramatically affected their defense and team. In the offseason they lost Courtney Upshaw to the Falcons. So getting a hybrid player like Kaufusi that can rotate in and out of positions is something they like to have. This can save them roster spots on the front seven, and save some spots on more secondary, and other positions that they will be experimenting with this season.

With the return of their defensive star Suggs, and other key contributors on defense, the Ravens can get to the Quarterback more often. They only got to the Quarterback 24 times last season, ranking 30th in the league. They also ranked towards the bottom defensively on forced fumbles, and tackles for loss on the season. Kaufusi, can help them return to a respectable level on defense.

Special Teams

This is where Kaufusi will have to prove himself the most, and will have most of his opportunities to prove himself. The AFC North is infamous for their special teams, and it's something they all strive to master. It's a pretty big deal, and you see some of the best returners in the game like Antonio Brown, and Travis Benjamin. Oh, and don't forget about Mike Tomlin and his famous interference moment. Bronson Kaufusi will probably run a lot of coverage in punts, kickoffs and field goals. They will use his height, and vertical ability to try to block some more field goals in 2016.

Maturity and Responsibility

Because of the example that Dennis Pitta has impressed on John Harbaugh and the organization, they know that they can trust players from BYU. Sure he might be older than most other rookies, and others with 2 years experience, but they don't have to worry about him in the locker room and outside of practice.

The Ravens are historically known for not dealing with players that create a scene or distract other players (with the exception of Ray Lewis in 2000). They cut Ray Rice the same day his career ending abuse video came out, and offered fans exchanges for his jersey. Harbaugh and Ozzie want to focus on talent and scheme instead of risky talent. They may have some of the biggest trash talkers in Suggs, and Steve Smith but they don't have to worry about them getting in trouble.

In the past year they have only had one player get arrested which is incredible in the NFL. Ironically it was their star linebacker Terrell Suggs getting arrested for driving on a suspended license. Early last year they had two players arrested for DUI/DWI and both have been released since, one of them being released the weekend of his arrest. In short, this is a team that generally won't put up with those who aren't responsible, or focused on the field.

Overall he will be a great fit

Bronson has the talent, and personality that the Ravens really strive to have in their locker room. His multiple talents, and athletic frame will give them plenty of chances to get him on the field, and give him a fair shot at starting. The competition will be there, and will be rigorous from day one as the Ravens signed even more defensive lineman, and linebackers after the draft. However, the Ravens are the organization to reward hard work and dedication. If Bronson is any bit of a hard worker like he was at BYU we should see him take the field more as the season progresses.

The top 5 games on the TV schedule in the fifth week of college football.

After another week of great and heartbreaking college football games, we have another great weekend in store for the gridiron. Featuring a couple of critical Big Ten games, Big 12 showdowns, and top ranked SEC match ups.

*All times are EST.

5) Iowa Hawkeyes vs #19 Wisconsin Badgers - Sat. 12pm ESPN

The stingy 4-0 Hawkeyes will go into Camp Randall and face the #19 Wisconsin Badgers in a important Big Ten, western division matchup. The Badgers will go into the game missing their #1 running back Corey Clement, who just had surgery on a sports hernia. While the Hawkeyes have a very powerful run game that can cause issues with the Badgers. The Badgers will look to make it 4 straight against the Hawkeyes, and move to the top of the Western Division of the Big Ten.

Prediction: Wisconsin wins at home by the same score last year, 26-24.

4) #21 Mississippi State Bulldogs vs #14 Texas A&M Aggies - Sat. 5:30pm SEC Network / Watch ESPN App

Here we have another great SEC match-up (again). If the Aggies want a chance to win the SEC Western conference they will need to bring their best in order to stay undefeated to compete with LSU, and Ole Miss. This should be a high scoring event, with the over/under 63 points. Both teams average almost 500 yards of offense and should be lighting up the score board again on Saturday.

Prediction: Look for the Aggies to outrun the Bulldogs at home 35-28.

3) #23 West Virginia Mountaineers vs #15 Oklahoma Sooners - Sat. 12pm FOXS1

Since West Virginia joined the Big 12 they are 0-3 against the Sooners. Both these teams look nearly identical on paper and only have a 7 point spread between the two of them. Last year they met up in West Virginia and scored a total of 78 points. Look for more of the same this time around in Oklahoma as they try to stay undefeated in front of the home crowd. You should be easily entertained by both quarterbacks in this game as both of them love to throw it often.

Prediction: Look for the Sooners to over power the Mountaineers 38-24

2) #13 Alabama Crimson Tide vs #8 Georgia Bulldogs - Sat. 3:30pm CBS

This will be your classic battle in the trenches in Georgia, especially if you like watching talented running Backs. This game will also have huge implications in the SEC and could even determine who goes to the SEC championship game. The Crimson Tide could lose their second game regular season game for the first time since 2010 when they lost a total of three. Nick Saban is 17-7 against Top 10 teams, and will be prepared to fight off the Bulldogs between the hedges.

Prediction: I think the Bulldogs have the team and the offense to hand Alabama their second loss 28-20

1) #6 Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs #12 Clemson Tigers - Sat. 8pm ABC

Game of the week! This game is very critical to both teams. On one end you have Notre Dame, and as BYU fans you know how hard it can be to earn a playoff spot. For Notre Dame to be considered for a playoff spot they need to go undefeated the entire season. They have tough games coming up against USC and Stanford, which could help them gain the committees favor in landing that playoff spot.

On the other side you have the Tigers in the ACC. A lot of people, including the playoff committee, don't think the ACC is that tough and a one loss ACC team probably won't be making the playoffs. This is the time for the Tigers to stand up for their division and win a hard game in front of their home crowd.

This game should be tight with only a 1.5 spread going to the Tigers for home field advantage. We will see if the backup quarterback for the Irish can win big games on the road, and if the Tigers and Deshaun Watson can beat a ranked opponent.

Prediction: Clemson will be able to pressure Kizer into some bad decisions and win this one 27-24

Other honorable mentions:

These are other games that would be worth your time that you can catch this weekend.

The top 5 games on the TV schedule in the third week of college football.

We have been blessed with such a great start to the college football season. We have witnesses miracles week after week, and some big upsets and close games. With an amazing week two that included another BYU hail mary, a FCS team almost upsetting a Top 10 team, and some prime time matches. The question may be "can we have another great week?" and the answer is yes!

Below are the 5 top games to watch this week in college football.

5) #11 Clemson vs Louisville - (9/17) 7:30pm EST - ESPN

This season has been a rough start for the Louisville Cardinals who have started 0-2, losing both their games by a combined 10 points, against #7 Auburn and Houston. Look for them to fight hard for that first win and upset of the season against #11 Clemson. The Tigers are 2-0 but have yet to play a non FCS opponent, and have started slow in both games. This should be an interesting game to watch if you're not interested in watching NFLs Thursday Night Football.

Prediction: Another heartbreak for Louisville as Clemson wins 31-24

4) #23 Northwestern vs Duke - 12:30pm EST - ESPN3

This game will be flying under the radar for a lot of people. Duke and Northwestern are both 2-0 on the season, and Northwestern has that impressive win over Stanford. Duke has a high powered offense that is averaging over 45 points a game. However, Northwestern has not allowed their opponents to gain over 250 yards offense, which could cause problems for Duke.

Prediction: Duke pulls the upset at home and beats Northwestern 21-17

3) #14 Georgia Tech vs #8 Notre Dame - 3:30pm EST - NBC

This will be Notre Dames first full game without starting Quarterback Malik Zaire. Not only that, but the Fighting Irish have been battling an injury bug all season long. On the other side of the field Georgia Tech has a been looking strong while averaging 67 points a game. Although they won't put up 67 against Notre Dame they have a very good chance to out pace the Fighting Irish at home, and run away with the upset.

Prediction: Georgia Tech upsets on the road 35-21 over Notre Dame

2) #15 Ole Miss vs #2 Alabama - 9:15pm EST - ESPN

What would college football be without a top SEC matchup? Look for Alabama to defend their SEC dominance over a very strong Ole Miss team. Ole Miss put up over 70 points against Fresno State but will have to play a tough Alabama defense. I don't see Ole Miss getting the upset in Tuscaloosa as Nick Saban stays in contention for the playoffs.

Prediction: Alabama shuts down the Ole Miss Offense and wins 31-13

1) #19 BYU vs #10 UCLA - 10:30pm EST - FOXS1

Not too many sources are giving the Cougars much of a chance against UCLA, who are currently 17 point favorites. If BYU wants to win this game they will need to toughen up on defense, and have a solid run game. For a more detailed analysis on this game make sure you check out "What you need to know: BYU vs UCLA". Regardless, you'll need to drink your caffeinated drinks to stay up for this late night game. Will we see another miracle hail mary?

Prediction: Sadly I don't see BYU pulling this one off. UCLA wins at home 27-21

Alani Fua has been getting the most attention out of all other eligible players for the Cougars. Here's what he'll bring to an NFL franchise.

If you have been watching BYU football for the past three years, odds are you know who Alani Fua is. He has been there to play along side of Ezekiel Ansah and Kyle Van Noy. He has helped anchor BYU's defense and helped keep offenses from stretching the field horizontally time and time again.

This season was a bit of a disappointment for Fua compared to his junior year. A lot of that can be credited to BYU's defensive struggles overall and Fua missing several games due to injury. He ended the season with 42 total tackles, 4 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 1 forced fumble.

Most NFL scouts like Fua for his size and speed that he brings to the field. He would excel in a 3-4 NFL style defense where he can continue to stretch the field and cover slot receivers. He also put together a solid workout for the scouts that helped boost his draft stock.

Here are Fua's Pro Day numbers (according to nfldraftscout.com):

At 6'5, 248lbs a lot of people are willing to take a chance on Fua to see what he can produce. The opportunity is his to take and fight for. There are plenty of teams that are in desperate need of help at the linebacker position, and he would have plenty of time and chances to play in the preseason.

Some of the teams that are looking at him include NFC defending champs Seahawks along with the Eagles and Colts. All these teams would be good fits for them as they look to use speed on the outside. However, He would likely struggle to get playing time with the Seahawks because of the depth they have on defense.

Draft expert Matt Miller has Fua going to the Colts in the 6th round and I love that move. This would give him a very realistic chance of making the team and seeing a lot of playing time on Sunday. They don't have any standout linebackers that would box him out on a 'name only' basis.

His chances in Philly would be interesting because it would be almost the same situation. There would be a little more competition to keep him on the bench, not to mention the unique coaching situation the Eagles have been experiencing.

Come draft day look for Fua to get drafted towards the end of the draft. The earliest I could see him going is in the 5th round to someone who loves him enough. Regardless of where he goes, I'm confident he can earn his spot in the NFL through hard work.

BYU took advantage of this and were able to score the first try of the game, going up 5-0 thanks to the efforts from Jonny Linehan.
The Brigham Young Cougars took the field Saturday afternoon against the Utah State Aggies, who were looking for revenge after losing to the Cougars earlier this season. The Cougars protected South Field once again and came out on top.

The BYU Cougars took the field again this week to take on the revenge driven Aggies of Utah State. BYU had previously beat the Aggies earlier this season 64-12 in Logan, and swept them again this year by beating the Aggies 100-0 Saturday.

The stands in South Field slowly filled up as the Cougars went on to throttled the Aggies. The Cougars were feeling confident and fresh after their crushing 109-0 (not a typo) victory over the UVU Wolverines earlier this week. They came out firing and hard hitting against the Aggies, scoring within the first 30 seconds to take a 5-0 lead off a strong run from Jordan Lowry. That was shortly followed by another score from Joseph Nichollas making it 10-0.

BYU turned up the heat in the first half and never let up making it almost impossible for this writer to keep up, and still find ways to stay creative about every score. Here are the other Cougars that scored in the first half: Lelann Latu, Josh Andersen, Kyle Lontine, Dallin Hunt, Joseph NIchollas (twice), and Kyle Sumsion. BYU throttled the Aggies in the first half going into the locker room up 56-0.

The Backs of BYU really were in control of the game and never struggled against the Aggies and they were able to score often. The one area they did struggle in was converting the points after as they missed all but two kicks. The Aggies frustration was showing a lot towards the end of the first half as they got penalized for a dirty hit off a kickoff. BYU was quick to score after that to close the half.

The second half started a little bit slower than the first half as BYU took two minutes to score their first try. The Aggies showed some strong play to try and get on the board before the days end. Joshua Whippy scored on a beautiful trick play to help the Cougars get on the board again. The Cougars would continue to flex their muscles and dominate the Aggies in the second half to secure the win and prove that they are the best in the state, again.

As you can tell the Cougars are in great shape this season and looking to win their fourth straight championship this season. They have the speed and power most teams don't, along with that they have more depth than other teams can handle making them a scary opponent to anyone in their way. If BYU can work on their points after they can blow anyone out of the water.

With an undefeated 11-0 record the Cougars are scheduled for a first round bye in the Varsity Cup Tournament that starts next week.

It was a great season opener for BYU Rugby as they crushed the SLCC Bruins 58-10. Many fans and family filled in the seats at South Field Saturday to cheer on the return of BYU Rugby to Provo.

It was a beautiful spring day this past Saturday at South Field when BYU Rugby took the field against the SLCC Bruins. The stands were full thanks to fan appreciation day and free admittance for everyone. The Cougars put on a great show for everyone who was there and made a strong statement against the Bruins.

The game started out a little bit slow as both teams were feeling each other out. The Cougars forwards dominated most of the game with sheer force and were able to control the tempo. The backline also proved strong against the Bruins with crafty passes and great protection, and limiting turnovers.

The Bruins fought hard in the first half and made the Cougars work for every inch. They had strong backs who were able to play the Cougars one on one, but would often fall for most of the draw plays and cuts the Cougars were able to do. The Bruins did create a couple turnovers in the first half and kept things in reach during the first half, thanks to their backs.

The Bruins were able to contain the Cougars in the first half by only letting them score 29 points and not allowing them to convert any extra point attempts. After allowing the Bruins to score a try, the Cougars were able to close out the half on a high note by scoring before the next dead ball. They closed out the half 29-5.

The Cougars excelled in the second half and only allowed the Bruins to score once more in the entire game as they put the petal to the metal. Nicholls led the way for the Cougars scoring twice in the second half as they went on to win the game 58-10.

Although the score looks lopsided, the Bruins fought incredibly hard throughout the game. "The score doesn’t tell the story of the whole game. The Bruins played hard all 80 minutes," coming from BYU rugby assistant coach Steve St. Pierre. "We’ve been putting in the work every day at practice. Our boys made the big plays when it mattered most."

BYU has been thrashing their opponents as of late, scoring 50+ points in their past six of seven games. They are making great strides in the season to repeat as national champions again. This was a great game for the Cougars to get their backups and other players ready for tougher opponents down the road.

If you want to experience the fun of BYU Rugby you can come watch them Saturday night at South Field. They will be playing the Gaels from St. Mary's. Last year the Gaels and Cougars split two games with each other as they were ranked #1 and #2 respectfully in the nation. Last week BYU beat the Gaels 32-28.

Come out and support your Cougars and watch them chase another championship. It's a great family event that's affordable and fun!

BYU Rugby is about to come home to South Field in Provo. Are you ready?

Good news for Cougar fans everywhere! BYU rugby will be opening their home schedule after their successful run in the Red Rock Invitational and a 99-0 win over UNLV. They are now 5-0 on the year and continued their undefeated season with a win over in-state rival Utah State. In Logan the Cougars didn't allow a try in the first half, and led by two try apiece from Win Elkington and Joshua Anderson, the Cougars dominated by a score of 64-12.

If you have never made your way to South Field to we highly recommend it for the atmosphere and to watch a very dominate rugby team. If you are debating whether or not to watch BYU Rugby we'll give you some more reasons so you don't miss out on a great season and a great BYU tradition.

1. The Cougars are going for their 4th-straight championship

BYU has won the last three national championships and have a great chance to make it four in a row. You can watch the whole season, and championship game since it will be held at Rio Tinto stadium. So get out there and help cheer on your Cougars to a fourth straight championship and sixth overall.

2. Rugby isn't too difficult to understand

Rugby is played on the same sized field as soccer and scores similar to football. Their are a lot of rules similar to football and soccer, so if you have a basic understanding of both sports you will quickly pick up on rugby. Plus the PA at the home games will explain the plays and penalties for your enjoyment. If you need to read up on the rules of rugby you can find a good set here.

3. Games are easy to watch

Say you don't live in Utah or can't make it out to the game. No problem! You can easily watch all home games live on the BYU rugby YouTube channel. Watch the Cougars from your phone, computer or anywhere you can stream YouTube, and the best part is not having to listen to ESPN commentary.

4. Great atmosphere

South Field gets pretty full for these rugby games and have a great following. The games are high energy and fun to be at. Ticket prices are affordable and a treat for the whole family. So get there early, wear blue and be loud!

5) Plenty of in-state rivals

BYU gets the chance to play Utah, Utah State and UVU at rugby, and will get the chance to host UVU and USU this season. The Cougars have already experienced a win over Utah this year 50-22 and are favorites to beat them again at Utah this month.

Friday night the Utah St. Aggies came into Provo to attempt to upset the #18 ranked BYU Cougars. Taysom Hill went into the game 2-0 against the Aggies.

The Friday night lights were on in LaVell Edwards stadium on the Cougars and their undefeated season. Would the Cougars go on to win and keep their undefeated season rolling, or would the Aggies ruin their dreams?

First Half

The Cougars came out firing and getting on the scoreboard quickly within the first two minutes. Taysom Hill connected with Jordan Leslie for a long pass. Shortly after Taysom Hill hurdled a defender to score a quick touchdown.

Hill would also end up connecting with Mitch Matthews for a wide open pass to score the only 14 points in the first half.

The Aggies would not go quietly and stayed with the Cougars, forcing a fumble and stopping Taysom Hill and the Cougars. Chuckie Keeton did not play in the game, but most people watching wouldn't have noticed due to the great performance of Darell Garretson who went on 14-17 for 257 yards and 3 total touchdowns. He had a passer rating of 267.6.

The worst news of the half was the injury to QB Taysom Hill. While running a read option Taysom rolled right and was tackled while picking up a yard. His ankle rolled awkwardly under the defender. Immediately Hill grabbed his ankle and limped off the field. Shortly after he was carted off the field in pain. Hill's injury has been ruled a left leg fracture.

After two long touchdown completions for the Aggies, late in the second quarter, Utah State went into the half 28-14.

Second Half

The Cougars came out firing with emotion and energy to start the second half. However, the lack of chemistry, defensive struggles, and offensive power showed as Christian Stewart tried to rally the troops. He drove the team down the field just to have a pass batted away and intercepted by Utah State.

The defense only gave up seven points in the second half, but the damage they allowed the Aggies to do in the first half was too much for a Taysom-less offense to overcome. Stewart struggled to complete a pass going 10 for 29 for 179 yards and 3 interceptions. The Cougars managed just six points in the second half and the game would end 35-20 in favor of the Aggies. Tonight's victory marks the first win for the Aggies in Provo since 1978.

In addition to the Hill's injury, Dallin Leavitt, Brayden Kearsley, and Alania Fua all left the game in the second half with injuries and did not return. The severity of those injuries is not yet known.

Looking Forward

This game was a huge disappointment for the Cougars and the loss of Taysom Hill is heartbreaking. All the hype and excitement that Cougar fans once had is now gone. BYU has a lot of work to do, especially on the defensive side of the ball, but the season is far from over. The Cougars still have a shot at double-digit wins if they can regain their composure and get Stewart comfortable in the offense.

Hill will likely miss the remainder of the season, but should be back for his senior season next year. If you'd like to send Hill some words of support and encouragement, he can be found on Twitter @T_Hill4. Our prayers are with him and his wife at this time.

College football is back and in full swing. Find out what to watch after the Cougars take the field Friday night, and how to productively spend your weekend indulging in the greatness that is college football.

#14 Wisconsin vs. #13 LSU

Wisconsin will face LSU as part of the college football kickoff promotion hosted at NRG stadium in Houston, TX. The #14 ranked Badgers are coming off a disappointing 9-4 season that included a loss to South Carolina in the Capitol One Bowl. Head coach Gary Anderson and Heisman hopeful Melvin Gordon look to take on the #13 ranked LSU Tigers.

The Tigers finished the season 10-3, including a victory over Iowa in the Outback Bowl to close their season. The Tigers look to improve on their 5-3 overall record in the SEC and look to get into the first college playoff system. They will have to do it without their former quarterback Zach Mettenberger who entered the NFL draft in the off season.

LSU is favorited to win by 5 points.

You can watch the game Saturday, Aug 30th at 9:30pm EST. on ESPN

#16 Clemson vs. #12 Georgia

Another big game that has playoff implications involved as #16 Clemson looks to take on #12 Georgia. Clemson had the upper hand last year when Georgia came to town and were defeated by Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins. This year the Georgia Bulldogs and Todd Gurley look to avenge themselves and get on the right track towards a potential playoff spot.

Both Clemson and Georgia lost their starting quarterbacks in the off season to the NFL draft. This could dramatically change how the game is played since both teams were in the top 20 in the nation in total passing yards. Tune in for what should be an exciting game.

Georgia is favored by 7.5 points.

You can watch the game Saturday, Aug 30th at 5:30pm EST. on ESPN

West Virginia vs. #2 Alabama

Because this is the first week of college football we all know there are not a ton of rivalry games and key matchups. Most ranked teams like to play a smaller school and get into a rhythm before playing someone tougher. Just look at the example we got from Boise St. and Ole Miss on Thursday night. Both teams were sloppy and there were a ton of turnovers. The exciting part of #2 Alabama playing West Virginia is starting QB of WVU Clint Trickett had a relationship with Sabans daughter.

We will also get to watch Alabama start a new chapter without quarterback AJ McCarron and their quest to win another championship. The Crimson Tide are ranked #2 in the country meaning that they already have a position in the playoffs. Not much to watch on this game as Alabama is expected to roll over West Virginia but it could be entertaining to watch Saban mess with his daughters former boyfriend.

Alabama is favorite to win by 26 points.

You can watch the game Saturday, Aug 30th at 3:30pm EST. on ABC/ESPN 2

Utah State vs. Tennessee

For those of you who are sad that the NFL has not started yet, and there is no football to watch on Sundays, can celebrate that we get some great football on Sunday. The Utah State Aggies will travel to Knoxville to take on the Volunteers.

Utah State will have their dark-horse Heisman candidate Chuckie Keeton quarterback back from injury and look to shake up college football this year. Although the Volunteers are favorites to win, many people are thinking that they might not take this game seriously. Which could be great for Utah State and could get some national attention again after the injury of Keeton last year.

The Volunteers are favorites to win by 6 points.

You can watch the game Sunday, Aug 31st at 7pm EST. on SEC Network
