As expected the West Coast Conference (WCC) has public reprimanded BYU freshmen Nick Emery and suspended him one game for the punch he threw near the end of the game between the Cougars and in-state rival Utah last night. Emery also released a public apology through BYU for his role in the incident.

Emery was assessed a flagrant 2 foul for "fighting" and was ejected by game officials after a video review of the incident clearly showed Emery land a punch to the chest area of Utes' senior Brandon Taylor. A flagrant 2 foul for "fighting" carries with it an automatic one-game suspension according to NCAA rules.
The suspension means Emery will miss BYU's matchup with Weber State at Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City this upcoming Saturday. Emery's presence will be missed as he ranks second on the team in points per game (13.7), steals per game (1.3), and assists per game (3.3).
