BYU fans are rightly excited for the Cougars' First Four matchup against Ole Miss, one of the few power conference programs the Cougars have never played. Many pundits have been penciling in BYU to win this game (and some have moved BYU along past the second round as well).
If we look at the tournament histories of the two programs, it looks like BYU has a bit of an edge as well--recently and historically. As a program, BYU has four times the tournament appearances as Ole Miss.
Ole Miss has lost four of its last five, but leading scorer Stefan Moody has been right on his season average over that stretch, so the Rebels will need other players to step up.
A final interesting note: Mississippi has already played at Dayton Arena this season. The Rebels suffered a 78-74 loss to the Dayton Flyers on Dec. 30, one of the eight tournament teams Ole Miss has faced in the 2014-15 season.
