Steve Sarkisian came to BYU as a juco transfer from El Camino Junior College in Torrance, California. His junior season he was ninth in D1 in passing efficiency at 149.8. He also set the NCAA record for highest passing percentage with a minimum of 30 attempts at 91.2 percent against Fresno State. Sarkisian's senior year improved, winning the Sammy Baugh Trophy, WAC Player/Offensive Player of the Year, and Second Team All-America . Against Texas A&M he threw 536 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 17 consecutive passes. He finished the season as the most efficient passer in the country with a 173.56 passing rating, tied an NCAA record by passing for 200+ yards in 12 consecutive games, and set an NCAA record for most total passing yards over two seasons at 6,996 yards. He also beat Steve Young's (65.2%) school record of passing completion percentage at 67.2 percent.
