Before Aaron Roderick coached for the University of Utah, decided to coach at BYU, and then changed his mind to stay up on the hill, he was #17, a wide receiver for the Cougars. Roderick came to BYU after rewriting the school punt and kick return records at Ricks Junior College in Rexburg, Idaho with a combined 1,000 yards.
After redshirting his first season as a Cougar in 1996, he played in 1997 and 1998. His biggest plays came as a junior when he had season long touchdowns of 62-yards against Washington, and on a 70-yard reception against Rice. His senior year he was most productive as a punt return man with 290 yards on 31 punts, his longest return of the season was 37 yards.
