College Football Rankings Week 4: BYU ranked 23 in Coaches Poll, 21 in AP Poll

Jay Drowns

BYU's 8-point victory over Houston on Thursday night may have been ugly, but it was good enough to get the Cougars into the Amway Coaches Poll for the first time this season and to jump them up a few spots in this week's AP Poll. BYU premiered in the Coaches Poll at the 23rd spot and moved up four spots in the AP Poll to 21st. This is the first time BYU has been ranked the Top 25 of both the Coaches and AP Polls since the end of the 2009 season.

BYU's Week 4 opponent Virginia made its first appearance in the "Others in Receiving Votes" section this week after an upset victory over Louisville on Saturday. The Wahoos got a single vote in the Coaches Poll and six votes in the AP Poll. The only other BYU opponent to receive any votes was Boise State. The Broncos received a single vote in the Coaches Poll.

The Cougars remain the only team outside of the Power 5 conferences ranked in either poll.
