With the first full week of College Football games now behind us, the first in-season rankings are out. It shouldn't come as a big surprise that BYU isn't included in the Top 25 of either poll, but BYU's week 1 victory over UConn did earn the Cougars 26 votes in the Amway Coaches Poll and 21 votes in the AP Poll, making them the closest non-P5 team to the actual Top 25.
Florida State remains at the top spot in both polls after week 1. The biggest movers in week 1 were Texas A&M and South Carolina. The Aggies jumped up 12 spots in the AP Poll after a 52-28 thrashing of South Carolina last Thursday. The Gamecocks fell 12 spots after the loss.
BYU's week 2 opponent Texas, came in at 25th in the Coaches Poll and just outside the Top 25 in the AP Poll. This week may be the only opportunity the Cougars get to face a Top 25 team in either poll this season, making it their best opportunity to impress poll voters. A win in Austin would a long way for the Cougars in next week's polls and is absolutely crucial if the Cougars hope to end up anywhere other than Miami Beach at the end of the year.
The only other BYU opponent to show up anywhere in the polls was Boise State. The Broncos received a single vote in the Coaches Poll. The Cougars will face the Broncos on October 24th in Boise.
Here's a look at both polls in detail:
