College football rankings week 5: BYU ranked 20th in AP poll, 21st in Coaches poll

Gene Sweeney Jr.

With a win over Virginia yesterday, BYU moved up a single spot in the AP poll and two spots in the Amway Coaches poll to enter its bye week at 20th and 21st, respectively.

There wasn't a lot of change in either poll this week with the exception of Mississippi State. The Bulldogs jumped up 13 spots in the AP and 11 spots in the Coaches after their upset victory over LSU on Saturday. LSU was the only other big mover, falling dramatically in both polls after the loss.

BYU is no longer the only team from outside the Power 5 conferences in the Top 25. East Carolina entered the polls this week after crushing North Carolina 70-44 over the weekend. Marshall. Cincinnati, Boise State, and Memphis all landed in the "Others Receiving Votes" category.
