After having the weekend off, the Cougars still move up in both polls.

Unlike in years past, the bye week for the Cougars didn't hinder their national rankings as they moved up in the major polls. Last week the Cougars sat at 20th in the AP poll, 21st in the Coaches, and 25th in the Sagarin.  A couple of losses helped the Cougars out as Arizona State was thumped by UCLA, and South Carolina lost in the final moments. The losses dropped both teams from the rankings and gave BYU the chance to move up to 18th in the AP and 19th in the Coaches poll.  The Sagarin rankings also moved BYU up two spots into the 23rd position.

There were a few changes in the top ten this week as Florida State lost its top ranking in the Coaches poll but keeping it in the AP.  The UCLA Bruins jumped into the top ten of the AP poll this week as they appeared at #8 and pushing Ole Miss back to #11.  In the Coaches poll the teams stayed the same until #9 where UCLA bumped Michigan State down to #10, effectively swapping places with them in the rankings.

Newcomers to the polls this week are TCU, who showed up at 25th in both polls, and Missouri, who show up in the AP poll at 24th.  An interesting addition to the Sagarin rankings is Texas at #25.  Texas also received 1 point in the Coaches poll, while Virginia received a point in the AP poll.  No other opponents of the Cougars received any votes.  It is interesting to note that the Cougars also came in at 16th in the ESPN Power ranking, just ahead of Nebraska and just behind LSU.
