More than 18 months after his commitment, California linebacker Will Sedgwick has signed with BYU, finalizing his pledge to the Cougars on signing day Wednesday.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker from Laguna Hills is a three-star recruit with a 247Sports composite rating of .8456, and is the #80 recruit from the state of California. It was not uncommon for Sedgwick to post games of 20+ tackles throughout his career at Laguna Hills High School.
Both of Sedgwick's parents are BYU alums, and the talented Will's recruitment never went further than that with an early pledge to Bronco Mendenhall during a summer camp after his sophomore year. After standing out in camp, Sedgwick was offered and committed on the spot.
"I come from a total BYU family," Sedgwick told the Deseret News. "Both of my parents went to BYU, we watch all of their games and we usually go to at least one of the games every year. BYU is really the only school I've ever wanted to play for."
Sedgwick plans to serve a mission, though it is not certain if he will go immediately or play for a season first.
Here are his highlights -- he appears to have worn #55 as a senior:
