David Lui, a 6-foot-4, 262-pound defensive lineman from Pittsburg, California has signed his letter of intent to play for BYU. He has been verbally committed to Coach Mendenhall since June 2014 and was part of the contingent to visit Provo at the end of January.
Lui is a rated as a three-star athlete with a 247Sports composite rating of .8217. He received scholarship offers from Hawaii and Weber State while receiving strong interest from UCLA, Utah, Cal, and Washington State.
Lui contributed 62 tackles (13 for loss) and four sacks during his senior season at Pittsburg High School. He is a sure-handed tackler, and his stout body provides a huge presence in the middle of the field. I imagine he would be especially effective in stopping the run game while at BYU. He played strong side defensive end and some offensive guard in high school and seems likely to play defensive line at BYU.
