Former conference mates BYU and UNLV to play in 2014-15

The Cougars and Rebels will face off in Novembers soon to come.

Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE

BYU and UNLV have scheduled a football series in 2014-15, the school announced on Thursday.

The first game will be on Nov. 15, 2014 in Provo, while the Cougars return in glory to Las Vegas on Nov. 14, 2015. It seems like a win-win for both schools. BYU gets to return to Vegas and keep a balanced schedule, UNLV gets to play on ESPN when in Provo and gets a sellout when the Cougars return the trip.

BYU leads the all-time series against the Rebels, 15-3. The two were founding members of the Mountain West Conference in 1998.

Tom Holmoe:

"We have a very large fan base in Las Vegas who was incredibly supportive of our football team during the five-straight years we played in the Las Vegas Bowl, and all the conference games we played at UNLV. I appreciate our relationship with UNLV and look forward to this series."

With that, the 2014 home schedule appears to be set, and two more road games are needed. Here's what 2014 looks like:

HOME: Virginia, Houston, Utah State, Hawaii, Southern Miss, UNLV
AWAY: Texas, Boise State, Middle Tennessee, Central Florida.

And here's a reminder of the 2015 slate, now with UNLV added:

HOME: Boise State, Cincinnati, Utah State
AWAY: Nebraska, Michigan, Southern Miss, Hawaii, UNLV
