Get to know BYU's bowl destination.

With BYU's first-ever appearance in the Poinsettia Bowl approaching, here are some quick facts on the bowl and its history.

Name: Poinsettia Bowl
Location: San Diego, California
Stadium: Qualcomm Stadium, cap. 70,561
Sponsor: San Diego County Credit Union

Date/Time: Thursday, Dec. 20, 6 p.m. MT

The Poinsettia Bowl was created as a sister bowl to the Holiday Bowl and is operated by the same group (the San Diego Bowl Game Association). With the proliferation of bowl games and with nearly every bowl-eligible team playing in the post season, the idea was, in part, to give San Diego State a home bowl similar to what Hawaii enjoys as the Holiday Bowl is locked into contracts with more interesting conference partners.

Payout: $500,000 per team

Contract Partners: Mountain West Conference; BYU (2012), Army (2013)
