The Poinsettia Bowl was created as a sister bowl to the Holiday Bowl and is operated by the same group (the San Diego Bowl Game Association). With the proliferation of bowl games and with nearly every bowl-eligible team playing in the post season, the idea was, in part, to give San Diego State a home bowl similar to what Hawaii enjoys as the Holiday Bowl is locked into contracts with more interesting conference partners.
