Schedule news emerged out of the gate during BYU's football media day. The first announcement was a two-for-one schedule agreement with the USC Trojans.
The first game is slated to occur in Provo on Sept. 14, 2019, as the Trojans make their first visit to LaVell Edwards Stadium since 2004. BYU returns that game twice on Thanksgiving weekend in 2021 and 2023. (Those numbers look weird, don't they?)
The great news out of this is an amazing set of games in November. They make for awesome warm-weather trips for BYU fans and are a fantastic way to close independent seasons.
BYU is 0-2 all-time against USC, losing in 2003 and 2004. USC was ranked #1 for both of the previous matchups.
The second official announcement was BYU's agreement to play in the 2015 Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego. After a successful foray at the Poinsettia in 2012, the Tom Holmoe signed on to play in 2015 as well as an undecided date in the future.
The Poinsettia Bowl currently partners with the Mountain West Conference.
In addition to those two official announcements, Holmoe hinted at future plans and forthcoming announcements. During the State of the Program event, Holmoe said in addition to the USC series, he is also currently working with a few other Pac 12 programs in finalizing games.
During the webchats that followed the SOTP, Holmoe explained that BYU fans should expect continued scheduling news in the next month or so.
