Road date with Central Florida set as BYU's 2014 schedule awaits one more game

BYU's 2014 football schedule is nearing completion as Central Florida announced a date for the two schools' contest that season. BYU's return date to Orlando is set for October 11, 2014.

The game follows a stretch of three-straight home games for the Cougars, hosting Virginia, Houston, and Utah State before flying across the country to Orlando. BYU flies home again the next week to play Nevada.

The 2014 schedule currently has six home games and five roadies scheduled, with open dates on Sept. 13, Nov. 22, and Nov. 29.

The slate is solid, but compared to the 2013 path, features only Texas and possibly Boise State as big-name opponents. It will be interesting to see if BYU opts for a seventh home game or hits the road to add another big name. With home games against UNLV and Southern Miss already scheduled in November, my guess would be to expect a road (or maybe neutral) game on either of the November open dates.

Of course, as we saw with the late addition of TCU to the 2011 slate, there is plenty of time for the 2014 schedule to get mixed up if the right opportunities come along.

The 2011 meeting in Provo was the first-ever between BYU and UCF. The Cougars claimed the victory that year, 24-17.
