BYU added some depth to the trenches with the signing of Jacob Smith, a 6-foot-6, 319-pound offensive tackle prospect out of Rosemount High School in Rosemount, MN.
BYU was the first school to offer Smith, but he’s had interest from Arkansas, Iowa State, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Oregon, Purdue, and Wisconsin. In addition to the interest he has garnered from collegiate programs, Smith was also named a 2015 Adidas Freshman All American and was the starting LT in the 2015 Adidas Freshman All-American Bowl Game.
The first thing that sticks out about Smith is his size. He is massive and moves very well for his size and stature. This seems to be the recruiting trend for OL Coach Mike Empey and one would expect this to continue as BYU develops their new offense under new coordinator Jeff Grimes who has been an offensive line coach the last 20 years.
