After a previous decommitment, 3-star Hawaiian safety Hirkley Latu signed a letter of intent with BYU on signing day.
Latu was one of the earliest class of 2016 commitments for BYU. The safety from Kahuku carries a 247 Sports composite rating of 82.89. He committed to BYU in October 2014 but eventually cooled and received strong interest from Utah State. He was also offered by Oregon State.

Latu is 6-foot-3, 195 pounds and fits the mold of a typical BYU safety. He has the speed to close tackles and the physicality to have a presence across the middle. He also played running back in high school.
