There were plenty of classic moments from the homecoming trip: Jimmer was met by cameras at the airport. He appeared at an assembly at his old high school. He threw an around-the-back, fastbreak pass to Kyle Collinsworth for a layup. But the most indelible image from the whole viewing experience, for me, didn't involve Fredette: It was the moment ... when CBS' cameras zoomed in on the Evan Fjeld/Noah Hartsock duel in the post ... and I briefly worried that they'd cut to vintage footage from a Balkan-state senior league."

For a city that's hosted the likes of Aerosmith, Phish, and the Ringling Brothers, last night may have been the greatest spectacle of all. An overflow crowd of 6,400 fans jammed into the 4,800 seat Glens Falls Civic Center to witness the return of one of New York State's greatest basketball players ever, Glens Falls' own Jimmer Fredette. Like he has countless times before, the Brigham Young senior point guard rose to the occasion."

I think everything about UTEP is attractive to us. The proximity, the passion that Miner fans have for that program, the tradition they're got there, the familiarity with New Mexico football with UTEP. There's so much that's attractive about them."

Because BYU would expand the Big 12's existing, five-state geographic footprint in future TV negotiations (unlike TCU, which is located in Texas), a case could be made that BYU would be a valuable acquisition if paired with the right expansion partner."

"I am fairly confident now that BYU was willing to work with the Mountain West and stay in the league if they could rebroadcast football and basketball games that were not shown on The Mtn. and to show those games then on BYU-TV. The money would probably not be the same with their ESPN deal, but if the Mountain West were to gain BCS status the additional money from that might have put the amount on par with their ESPN deal and without the headache of having to schedule 12 games each year."

As a university, we apologize for the inappropriate message that was briefly posted on the BYU scoreboard at the end of the Utah State-BYU men's basketball game. BYU's athletic director Tom Holmoe also has apologized to Utah State's athletic director, Scott Barnes. As Tom explained to him, the university is extremely sorry for this message, which does not reflect the sentiment of BYU Athletics or the university. Athletics does not operate the scoreboard in the Marriott Center; instead, this is handled by the university's IT department. In this incident, the usual person was not at work because of a family emergency. The student employee filling in took the liberty of putting up what he thought was a humorous message. This matter has been addressed with the student, who regrets his action."

There's no better scoring point guard than Fredette, who had an offensive rating of 120.0 and shot 44.0 percent from long range last season -- despite being the focal point of every opposing defense. He'll put up enough memorable scoring totals (for example: 49 against Arizona and 45 against TCU as a junior) to win a close POY race against K-State's Jacob Pullen and UNC's Harrison Barnes."

Luke Winn, Sports Illustrated - Predicting Jimmer Fredette as the National Player of the Year.

"Riley [Nelson] will still get the first snap. From there, we've never guaranteed that whoever gets the first snap will end up playing the most. It's worked out that way the past couple of weeks. But that doesn't mean that will be the way it will always be."
